The 8th biennial Gender & STEM Conference will be hosted at the University of Salzburg, Austria, from 9 to 11 July 2026. This interdisciplinary conference is the leading international forum dedicated to advancing understanding of the multifaceted and interrelated factors that shape gendered educational and career pathways in STEM.
The conference brings together researchers, policy workers, and practitioners from fields such as psychology, education, sociology, and the various STEM disciplines. It seeks to foster theoretical and empirical dialogue, inform educational and organisational practices, and support evidence-based policymaking.
Topics include the factors shaping educational and vocational choices in STEM, interventions to address gender disparities, the role of stereotypes and identity in STEM pathways, organisational and institutional approaches to gender equality, and the intersection of gender with other social categories. The conference particularly welcomes submissions on effective educational practices, mentoring and role models, and systemic barriers to gender equality in STEM careers.
The conference provides an excellent platform for exchanging ideas on diverse approaches, methodologies, findings, and intervention strategies related to gender and STEM, making it highly relevant for the STREAM IT community working towards inclusive STE(A)M education.
