The 6th conference of the European Citizen Science Association (ECSA) will take place on 2–7 March 2026 in Oulu, Finland. Hosted by the University of Oulu during the city’s year as European Capital of Culture 2026, the conference theme is “Citizen Science Bridging Centre and Periphery.”
The conference highlights the diversity of citizen science across regions — from urban metropolitan hubs to remote northern and southern spaces — and explores its vital connections to sustainability, culture, history, political and legal systems, resources, public health, and education. The event brings together researchers from all disciplines, civil society actors, citizen scientists, policy decision-makers, and all those interested in participatory research.
Building on the success of the ECSA 2024 conference in Vienna, which hosted nearly 500 participants from 36 countries, ECSA 2026 offers a unique platform for discussing the role of public engagement in advancing scientific knowledge and how citizen science can support STEAM education and inclusive scientific literacy.
