International Girls in ICT Day is a global initiative led by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to encourage girls and young women to pursue studies and careers in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and related STEM fields. The 2026 edition will be celebrated on 23 April under the theme “AI for Development: Girls Shaping the Digital Future.”
The ITU global celebration will be co-hosted by the Europe and Americas regions, featuring a live link between Tirana, Albania and Brasília, Brazil. The event will be webcast, allowing participants from around the world to join.
The Day highlights the gender gap in access to the internet and digital technologies and invites schools, institutions, and organisations to promote activities aimed at strengthening the digital skills of young women. It represents an excellent opportunity for educators and STEAM advocates to engage their students in discussions about digital inclusion and the transformative potential of AI.
Since its launch in 2011, International Girls in ICT Day has reached over 597,000 girls and young women in 11,400+ events across 171 countries worldwide.
