Ada Lovelace Day (ALD) 2026 takes place on 13 October 2026. This annual international celebration of the achievements of women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) is held every year on the second Tuesday of October.

Founded in 2009 by Suw Charman-Anderson, Ada Lovelace Day aims to increase the profile of women in STEM and create new role models who will encourage more girls into STEM careers and support women already working in these fields. Named after Augusta Ada King, Countess of Lovelace — widely regarded as the first computer programmer — the day has grown into a global movement.

Since 2010, Ada Lovelace Day has included dozens of grassroots events around the world, organised by independent groups who want to support women in STEM in their communities. These events take many forms — from conferences to Wikipedia “edit-a-thons,” pub quizzes to school visits — and appeal to all ages, from girls to university students to women with well-established careers. Schools, universities, libraries, workplaces, and community organisations are all encouraged to participate.

For the STREAM IT community, Ada Lovelace Day represents a powerful annual touchpoint for celebrating women’s contributions to STEM, challenging stereotypes, and inspiring the next generation of girls and women to pursue science and technology careers. It aligns directly with the project’s goal of reducing gender inequalities in STEM education.
