Communicating Astronomy with the Public 2026 (CAP2026) is the only large-scale international conference dedicated to science communication in astronomy. It takes place on 25–29 May 2026 in Yerevan, Armenia (with online participation), organised by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) Office for Astronomy Outreach and hosted by the NAS RA Byurakan Astrophysical Observatory.

The 2026 theme is “Democratising Astronomy Communication in the era of accessible AI,” reflecting growing interest in how artificial intelligence tools can broaden access to astronomy education and communication globally. The conference brings together science communicators, educators, outreach professionals, researchers, and policymakers from dozens of countries for presentations, hands-on workshops, and structured networking.

Sessions cover public engagement strategies, citizen science, digital storytelling, planetarium programmes, inclusive science communication, and the use of AI for educational content creation. CAP2026 is particularly relevant for professionals working at the intersection of science, communication, and public education — an important dimension of the STREAM IT project’s focus on science communication training and gender-inclusive outreach.
