The Summer School in Science Communication takes place from 6 to 10 July 2026 at Leiden University in the Netherlands. Jointly organised by the Faculties of Science and Social Sciences, this intensive one-week programme is designed for researchers at all career stages who are relatively new to science communication.

Participants will explore key theoretical insights in science communication, develop and practise communication skills tailored to different audiences, learn from guest speakers with experience in the field, work in teams to create their own science communication product, and participate in workshops on science journalism and science visualisation.

The programme combines lectures on communication theory with hands-on exercises, providing practical tools that researchers can apply in their academic careers. The summer school is open to participants from all academic disciplines, including social sciences, natural sciences, and humanities.

Due to limited places, applicants must submit a motivation letter and CV. This event is particularly relevant for the STREAM IT community as it builds capacity in science communication — a key skill for bridging the gap between research and public engagement.
