The 15th European Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad (EGMO) took place from 9 to 15 April 2026 in Bordeaux, France. EGMO is an international mathematical competition exclusively for young women, welcoming teams from over 50 countries across Europe and beyond.

Founded in 2012, EGMO was created to address the significant gender gap in mathematics competitions and to inspire girls to pursue mathematics at the highest level. The competition features challenging mathematical problems across algebra, combinatorics, geometry, and number theory.

Beyond the competition itself, EGMO provides a supportive environment where young female mathematicians meet peers, exchange ideas, and build lasting international networks. Many EGMO alumni have gone on to pursue careers in mathematics, computer science, and related STEM fields.

For the STREAM IT community, EGMO demonstrates the power of dedicated platforms that celebrate and elevate young women’s excellence in STEM, helping to break stereotypes about who can succeed in mathematics.
